Creative Soul Summer Oasis
with Carolyn Scarborough
Weekly throughout June, 2020 via Zoom
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary Circles. That’s why I’m offering this rare Creative Soul Summer Oasis series. It’s a place to come and deeply refill your well in the midst of whatever is happening. And in order to support others while we support ourselves, 25 percent of your registration fee will be donated to the Austin non-profit Foundation Communities which helps those who need food, shelter and any kind of assistance during this crisis.
In these four weeks, you will experience:
- Space to sink more fully into connection with yourself (yes, despite more time alone, many of us feel even MORE disconnected from our own sweet hearts).
- Vital, yet simple practices for how to meet the Unknown with more peace and trust.
- How to find structure and balance daily so you don’t get either too stuck (hello couch!) or too unmoored (existential anxiety!).
- Easy ways to come more fully alive and refill your creative well.
- Self-care, laughter and inspiration for the creative soul within a safe, supportive community of conscious women.
- A place to simply show up and let go without pressure to produce, impress, strive or be anyone other than our lovable, messy selves.
How will we connect?
Put on those comfy sweats, brew up a cup of tea, and join us on Zoom. I will hold the sacred space for all of us to meet in a way that feels intimate and calming.
What’s extra cool about this? It is a rare opportunity for those of you to join from outside the Austin, Texas area. So if you’ve wanted to join these Circles but have privately been cursing the location – this is your chance!
How will the time be spent?
For those of you who have been in the Creative Soul Seasonal Women’s Circles, the format is very similar:
We will begin with a centering meditation, followed by some brief check-in journaling and maybe poetry. Then I will introduce the topic and offer prompts to deepen your experience during quiet “retreat time.” Mute your computer, sit on your porch or your favorite chair, and ponder/write to the prompts.
After that, we will gather in small groups of three for sharing (available through Zoom magic!). The Circle will end with everyone gathering again in the larger group for final thoughts, synthesis and a closing.
What are the “regular” Creative Soul Seasonal Women’s Circles?
Every fall and spring (beginning in January), these Circles happen at our spacious, artsy north-central Austin home. The full series is typically 8 sessions, and we meet every other week. There WILL be Circles this fall, but whether it is at our home or on Zoom is unknown at this point.
Typically the Circles are inspired by a book; for this Summer Oasis Series, I will be pulling relevant information from books, articles, etc. and emailing resources and handouts to you.
Bonus for new peeps: Once you have attended at least one of my offerings, you automatically become part of the Creative Soul Community, a larger group of conscious, creative women who stay connected through a private Facebook community, special gatherings and friendships.
I am not a “writer” – will this work for me?
The journaling part of the Circle is about 20 to 30 minutes, and if you can write an email, you can do this writing. This isn’t about craft or writing to impress/read to others. This is a precious period for self-exploration. There literally is no way to do it “wrong.” No one will read it. And we are not bound by strict rules here (women our age won’t put up with that anyway!).
I am introverted and feeling ambivalent about joining a group where I don’t know anyone. Will I fit in?
I am highly sensitive and slightly introverted, which means creating a safe space is a priority. What this looks like is lots of spacious, private time for inner listening and writing. Small groups and never any pressure to share. The whole focus of these gatherings is creating a space for you to hear YOUR wisdom, not ours. (We have plenty of those other voices on the internet and elsewhere in our lives.) And we practice radical acceptance and non-judgment here.
I’m so very happy to have met you and joined the Women’s Circle. You do such a lovely job of facilitating, guiding and teaching us – I really appreciate the safe, calm and relaxed space that you create and hold for us. Thank you for a fun, fascinating and expansive year. I’m looking forward to seeing you again at the next Circle, and the one after that, and after that!
I already know I can’t make several of the gatherings. Will that work?
Yes. The really reasonable pricing and structure of these Circles supports everyone. I will always email materials, so you can read the information and do the prompts on your own. We also have a private Facebook group to keep up with the inspiration and conversation.

I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for, but hungry for something. I felt something was missing. I lived my life entirely from my head and knew I wanted to move towards a more heart based way of being. As near as I could tell, whatever I was looking for was behind a door marked “Creativity/Spirituality.” I wanted Carolyn to help me find the door, vacuum off the cobwebs, and apply the WD40 to the hinges. I expected to be assigned exercises and other things to do. I was hoping for a workbook, a weekly time commitment, a logical structure. Instead, Carolyn held my hand and encouraged curiosity as we strolled through the most beautiful garden of simple, easy, being.
Now, instead of exhaustively looking, trying, making things happen, I stand still and life comes to me. I’m aligned with Spirit and less often driven by thoughts and conditioned patterns. I nurture and grow this little flame within and, thanks to Carolyn, my life has completely changed for the better. Thank you!
My experience in working with Carolyn as an inspirational creative coach as well as participating in a writing retreat have expanded my abilities in sensing the world and expressing that more fully. If you are looking for a grammar coach — look elsewhere. Carolyn holds space for a much deeper writing experience — one that will move you past the inner critic and into that deep well of wisdom that desires to be expressed. Not a writer? I didn’t think I was either. It is amazing the creativity and talent that comes to the surface when safe space has been created for it to emerge. I highly recommend Carolyn Scarborough’s work.
