Creativity Now? Yes. Here's Why

"Creativity? That's the last thing on my mind right now!"

That’s what someone told me recently when I asked what had been lighting them up creatively.

And honestly? I wasn’t surprised.

In these chaotic, stressful times, it feels like the default setting is survival. We table the “creative stuff” for later—some undefined “someday” when things calm down.

Respectfully—and wholeheartedly—I disagree.

Yes, we’re exhausted. Frazzled. Perhaps even hopeless. I feel it too. But when I start spiraling—what Martha Beck calls the Anxiety Spiral—I’ve learned I have a choice.

I can pause. And gently pivot.

Because if I don’t turn toward what Beck calls its opposite—the Creativity Spiral—I’ll just sink deeper into that murky void.

And here’s the thing I’ve come to know, from falling and climbing out a bajillion times:

Creativity is the way through.

I don’t mean you have to sculpt a masterpiece or write hilarious haikus (though those count!). I mean reconnecting with your creative soul—that part of you that’s most alive and real. The part that sees possibilities, not just problems. That refuses to be a victim of circumstance and instead carves out a room of her own. A space to breathe. To dream. To meet whatever’s arising with compassion.

Even to say to your own rattled nervous system: “Hey sweetie, I see you. Rest a while. Then let’s take one small step toward the light.”

Because I believe so deeply in the healing—and rebellious—power of creativity (believe me, THEY don’t want us authentically expressing ourselves!), I’ve got a few revitalizing treats for you. Come yourself, and invite a friend who could use some creative soul nourishment.
